Hockey Drill – 2 Shot Transition Drill

Hockey Drill – 2 Shot Transition Drill

Description

This is a transition drill with wide pass to trailer & Set up for Point Shot.

On the whistle, the D (Red) skates forward up off the wall from the blue, pivots to backward and skates back over the blue line.

F1 (Green) times his/her start, ensuring the D is skating backward then comes out of the center face off circle with a puck and passes (Pass 1) it to the D.

F2 (Blue) goes directly to the wall just over the center red line on the same side and posts up (stationary) with their stick on the ice (showing their forehand).

The D Steps up (starts skating forward) and passes (Pass 2) the puck to F2 (Blue) at the boards.

F1 (Green) turns up ice after his/her initial pass (Pass 1) with timing and support, skating through the neutral zone towards the boards and F2.

F2 (Blue) chips/passes (Pass 3) the puck to F1 (Green), who receives the pass while collecting speed through the neutral zone.

F1 (Green) gains the offensive zone and ‘drives wide’ with the puck. F2 (Blue) gains the zone (staying outside) with F1 and goes into the middle, staying high as the trailer.

F1 (Green) passes (Pass 4) the puck up high to F1 (Blue), who takes a shot (Shot 1) with both F1 and F2 going the net/goalie for a rebound and to set up a screen.

The D (Red), follows up on the play/drill, stops just inside the blue line (on the same side as the coach), receives a pass (Pass 5) from the coach out of the corner and takes a point shot (Shot 2).

F1 and F2 play/battle the goalie if any possible rebound.

Notes: Remember to do both sides. D – Step up/Skate forward when passing to the post up.  (F2), F1 – Drive wide and pass high to the trailer. Both forward go to the blue paint/crease area to set the screens. D – Low powerful shots.
